Oh your good. Yeah u need mekp to catalyze and can reduce with laquer thinner. Home depot has both.
Your 1.4 is gonna be fine. The harbor freight gravity is nice cuz u can just pour thinner in it spray a little and leave it be for the next use. I have a nice Sata jet I’d never let primer near!!!
Any was so long as you don’t run sag or squirt! You’ll be fine. Don’t mist but even light wet coats and your good. Honestly I turn the pressure down and give it a 3" fan and spot prime it all in. No big deal. This stuff is no different than laquer thinner or 2k urethane blockage primer… Well it is just applied the same way.
After I usually start with a wet sand and then polish. Much faster IMO. And I’ll sell you a trick when your ready. Lol
cool… i bought these guns for this purpose. but i would like to keep them clean. is this primer simmilar to epoxy? do i have to mix, shoot and then clean the gun before it set gels up and ruin the gun?
Yeah but I think it has an 8 hr pot life or something like that. Just clean it with laquer thinner
instructions say 15 minute pot life, i think. what air pressure do you recommend dallas?
35-45 ish. And like I said dot it in. Your mold is small and pretty simple. In about 1 minute you’ll be twiddling your thumbs waiting to shoot again. It’s gonna be a fast process but don’t rush it.
what do you mean by dot it in? do you have a rough air press recommendation?
Yeah 35-45 is at the gun or on the regulator. Turn your fan pattern down and back the fluid needle 2/3 closed so it’s barely spraying fluid. Open the fan pattern just a little bit. Pull trigger and start opening the fluid needle till you get semi solid 2" fan about 18" away. If you were to shoot the wall you have a dot. The fan pattern needs to be tight so you can get it in your bowls on the mold. The primer covers pretty good but it’s easy to over do it.
I’m sure you know what your doing and it’s not your first time painting some thing. Treat it like you normally would and take my suggestions with a grain of salt. Everyone has their own technique.
Just don’t dump the stuff on.
A tight pattern and a light finger will get in the bowls. Focus on getting in there and getting a smooth finish that won’t take alot of sanding to get smooth. Then when you have a few coats you can open her up and knock out the flanges.
This is no biggie
When I’m trying to get coverage in tight spots I turn my gun down and get patient… Also hold the gun farther away let’s you spray longer over tue same area without making a mess…
This is a simple piece and you’ll knock it out.
WAAHOO! i just did my first infusion…it was a comedy of errors LOL:D:D:D
The first ones always are. What were some of the problems?
first, i tried to be cheap and didnt mix up enuff resin…SLURP! i clamped it off pretty quick.
- i kept getting blow outs in the bag…right at the very end of the spiral wrap. i had to plug the holes with bagging tape. i wrapped the spiral wrap in peel ply but not the very end:rolleyes: next it i might try breather cloth and go past the end.
but all and all i think it a success. the vacuum machine is working and i dont see any air bubbles inside. in the top a tleast…
as soon as i clean up the garage and go insidde i’ll post up some pictures…
i’m a compositeer now. HELL YA!
Lol good job Doug!
Yes you are a compositeer now! Those are the same problems I had when I first started infusion. What bag do you use? I use Strechlon 200. I found the end of the spiral and where the intake/exhaust hose enter threw the bag are the spots I had problems with the bag popping. But after a couple trys you’ll get the hang of it and pretty soon holes will be a thing of the past. Not sure what you do for leak tests. I shut the vac hose off and make sure I don’t have any drop in vac after 10min. If there is no drop then there is no leak. Well there wont be a leak big enough to notice, cause there can still be a leak. I’ve seen some people wait 15 and others 5. But when I did the sample panels with the MTI hose on friday I shut the vac off after 24hours and the bag is still holding 29" today.
i am using the same, strech 200. and that is exactly where the holes were. leak test???
uhhhhh, i had to use the old anvil, stirrup, and hammer.o
i just used a 15 minute vacuum drop test. it was pretty evident when the hole appeared… a loud hissss, then the pump starts. its been holding for 3 hours now at 26.5" that is max for my pump. im super stoked still.:D:D
I’m stoked too. I wana see what your first infused parts look like. Did you use your mold or the wifes mirror?
ok ladies and gents…are you ready for the most complex piece of composit work in history???
if your standing, you better sit down. if your driving, you should pull over, if your bumpin fuzzies…you can always check it out later. LOL
a little degasification…
behold:
Looks good. Let’s just hope your surface looks as good. How many layers was this? And next time you might want to cut the flow media shorter to give it a resin brake. I’m glad you took a pic of the cup in the pot cause those are the same cups I use. I think I’m picking up one of those HF paint pots now. Oh yeah when do you think your going to demold are you going to use your infared?
Looks like he knows what he’s doin now!!!
thaks cory, i use 1 layer of the blue hybrid and 3 layers of carbon. i was kinda nervous about cutting the flow media short so i played it safe:). im going for a job in the morning, so if it gets to my i will probly demold tomorrow after work. some time in the afternoon for sure. heres where i got my plexiglass http://www.estreetplastics.com/ it was like 10 bucks for a 12x12 piece. plus shipping. i will put it under the heat lamps after i demold. i am going to try to follow the instructions by the book.
i rigged up a pulley system for the lamps to raise and lower the temp. kinda cro-mag i know.and check it with my temp gun.
the wife wouldnt give the mirror up. i think shes still a little sore about the propane bottle:rolleyes:. hmmmm, closet door? no, just kidding. i want to get a big chunk of scrap glass because i would like to do some flat door panels for my car…
so what do you wrap your spiral wrap with? and plug the ends? that has really been the biggest problems…
