ok here we gooooooo.
how can i tell if the resin soaked thru all the layers of fabric?
Without opening the bag your only option is to call Miss Cleo.
do you have her number?:D:D:D
Maybe but, I’ll have to charge you.
No carb hats yet???
I saw on the news this morning there is a HUGE blackout in SoCal, AZ, and NM. Over 1million effected, I guess someone hit the wrong button at the plant… Don’t know if it’s still going. I was waiting for Doug to come back on and say “Don’t worry, since I’m an electrician I made my own steam punk generator too!”
Leave it to a blackout to mess up a first infusion. Lol I guess these things happen but damn. I’m trying to imagine the cuss words the cuss words that echoed his neighbor hood!!! Lol.
Chances are his parts probably turned out ok if he had got the parts infused. The drop in pressure shouldn’t affect the outcome so long as he applied some heat to advance the kick. I power went out before the kick the bag might have bridged up. If power went out after he probably is fine.
I’m hoping for some really good looking parts to pop out!
Wait a minute… He’s currently active…
LOL…dont worry everybody…i got the power thing handled:D…
im demolding right know…ive got all the junk off…peal ply and such. well…the part hasnt just fallen out of the mold. how do i get this darn thing out???
im gonna give it a blast of air with my compressor. the same way that you would take off a motorcycle grip…
my wife took the camera so we are going to have to deal with my pos cell phone camera…
the resin is dry, for sure but is a little plyable. deffinately not like a piece of glass…WTF?
once i get it out, is now the time to cut it into shape? or do i wait until after the post cure?
Post cure in mold. Might help shrink it a bit. How skilled are you with a zizz wheel?
Take a 1/2" thin sliver of steel and slide it between the two hats. If the parts shrunk they might be pinching the middle gap. Slide the strip and cut a line separating the two hats down the middle. The steel strip will protect the mold from the cutting wheel.
Should free it up.
Other way to get it out it to use soft wood wedges and air.
Wear gloves and glasses please Doug and take your time.
i got them…and…well …they are les than prefect:mad:.
im gonna run in the house and down load the pictures. i will need some advice on what to do with them:o:(
Razor blade might work good too
degassing…
infusion
with all the junk removed but still in the mold
after demolding
2 things i can think of…
i know i had a small leak. i looked for it for 3 hours and i couldnt find it. the pump kept going on every 3 hours.
and my pump only goes down to 26.5. maybe a pump that goes to 29 would have not let it bridge like that? i dont know…
but the mold held up perfectly dallas. but i think im gonna strip off the frekote and sealer and polish it better. all it took was a blast of air to pop it out.
The bridging is from the carbOn or the bag. Make a bigger bag and try to tailor your carbon a little better.
Use some spray tack. And work the carbon tightly into the corners. If you have trouble with the corners on the second go around we will go straight to a double bag with caul plate after infusion.
This parts look excellent Doug. Granted they are not perfect they are not half bad either. Once you post cure you can fix the trouble spots with some clear double bubble. (5minute epoxy) then clear coat for a nice part.
Good job dude!!
Before you strip it let’s get some decent parts made first. Go ahead and prep the mold again. Just a squirt of freekote on a cotton ball. And let’s move on to infusion number two. I think simply better tailoring and just a bit better bag will solve the problem.
Vacuum does not seem to be the issue yet. Your surface texture looked pretty darn good.
REALLY? not bad? COOL!!!
do i want to post cure now? or after i trim them up? what do i trim them out with? all i have are metal working tools. porta band? 4 inch grinder? chop saw:eek:? J/K.
I’d keep making parts. Then do the finish work all at once.
Do you have any silicone? Like rtv or clear caulk? If so you can make an intensifier (caul plate) before you do another lay up.
Would you rather post cure 6 or 8 pieces at once or cure 2 three or four different times.
