ok. just one coat of sealer dallas? can i use acitone to clean it?
As far as acetone goes I don’t think it will take the duratec off. Be careful with it clean a small spot and see how it does. Do it on a corner or somethin to be safe though.
The sealer can be wipe on buff off. Or wipe on wipe off. I’d do two coats of sealer so long as it brings the mold back to the point it was when u hand polished it.
If the acetone is too much warm soapy water will clean the polish off.
maybe i’ll just get a can of wax remover just to be safe…and do i want to mask off the edge of the flange where the bagging tape will go?
Mask it from the freekote release the sealer closes the porosity on the surface. The tacky tape should stick just fine when the sealer dries.
Dawn and warm water will clean meguires compound off. Use a sponge then let dry over night. I wanna say acetone will be fine but would hate for you to soak a rag and jack it up! Lol. The water will not bead when it’s clean.
Hey Doug do you mind writing a quick tutorial on how to post pictures? I don’t understand how to do it. Never have. I think It would help me and the site out at the same time!
no problem dallas…let me shoot this sealer on real quick…youll need to open a photo bucket account if you dont already have one… its free:D and down load the pictures you want to put on the forum…
back in a little bit.
i’ll make a new thread…just got to put in the right category. i think we need a how to section…for tutorials. i could put the steam punk vacuum machine in it…
ok dallas, how many coats of freekote 77nc? three?
do you have a photobucket or fricker account?
Are you goin to do a layup tonight?
i got the vacuum on it. i need to double check everything before i mix up the rez. i shoot a picture and post it…
Darn right you will. I’ll be ready and waiting with my popcorn.
Just make sure that mold is slick.
Don’t forget to do the masking tape test since your using Frekote. The tape should feel like it doesn’t even want to stick to the mold surface. Or put one piece on the mold surface and another on a unreleased area and you can tell the differnce that way. Good luck Doug!
chasing down a leak…ARGH!!!
ut oh!!!i didnt know about the masking tape test. i havent infused yet. i just found the leak. i have to take my boy to soccer practice so im gonna let it sit and see if it holds…
dont tell me i have to take this thing all apart…i followed the directions for the sealler and the 77nc…but who knows if i even did it corectley.
now that i think about it…i did use masking tape to hold the material down and it wasnt sticking real well. i thought is was the damn tape…
im going for it. what the hell…
You seem to follow the instructions to the T so if the tape was hard to stick I assume it is good to go. Have at it! Oh and after I have the vac on I cut the bag to the edge of the double sided tape since most leaks are on the edge. This makes it easy to plug that trouble spots.
cool…
hey roto and dallas, will you guys take alook at my set up while im at soccer? if you would just tell me if you see somthing you dont like or see something i need to change. the 2 out side tubes are vacuum, and the middle is for resin.
I think it looks ok. You’ll get the bags and the tailoring down pat after some more runs. You kinda cut your infusion mesh just a bit short on the left side but I think you did that to throttle down the resin. Which is good. Don’t run mesh to the vacuum source. Otherwise it will race out too quick.
Get you three pair of duck bills or clamps ready in case you need to kill one of those tubes.
Looks good man.
We are gonna have some carb hats tomorrow morning!
One more thing… Get you some wedges and a mallet. Your gonna need it.
