wish me luck

we have a real autobody supply in town… they have 2000 2500 and i even think i say 3000 in there. 6 bucks a pack. no problem…

its just not normal to take sand paper to a shiny object to make it shinier… i’ll get over it. the guide coat will be the ticket…your not gonna take a poor mans unemployment check are you? i just tell my kids we dont have any milk because some guy on the internet took all our money…

the instrucktions say 4-6 hours befor sanding but im thinking i better not chance it and wait till the morning…agree?

by the way…all i have is antique white in the garage…will that work? baahaahaa (im being a smart ass)

like this dallas, or do i need more dusting?

sheeesh just wiping the dust off with a rag scratched it:eek:

Perfect exactly right! When you wetsand it the water will break an hold the surface. It will look like glass. Polishing compoun will take over where the sand paper left off. With wax your mold will look like glass.!!!

ohhhh. i will still wax the mold? even with the frekote sealer, and frekote?

also, do i guide coat after each grit change? should i go all the way to 3000 grit if they have it?

Be prepared tho you will have 90% the shine that the gun gave you but your surface will be smooth. This is normal. Google some images of prepared boat molds. They will have the dull smooth look I’m talking about.

Yes polish it with compound then chemical wipe it to get the compound residue off. Then prepare your mold for your release system as normal.

Polishing compound is still a form of material removal. Just like sandpaper. Think of it as such.

Then release. The frekote will make it bling!

No just do one guide coat. Get it to 2500 or finer by the time the guide coat dissapears.

so i do not completely remove the guide coat with the 2000? just the bulk of it?

I stop at 2000 wetsand. You can go to 2500 if you want. That’s like super fine grit. The 2500 should should take it from trace amounts of white to no white. 800-1500 doing most of the work and 2500 taking the 1500 scratches out.

In your case start with 2000 wet and just smooth it all out. It will all make sense as you go. If you start thinkin the 2000 is takin to long bump it down to 1500 just go back to 2000 when the white starts getting thin.

Update??? Did u break your internet?

Maybe it is date night with the wife tonight. :stuck_out_tongue:

Come on Doug where you at? When I saw the mold after you applied the Duratec I was like  You’re doing a great job fixing them up.

Or he might be infusing already!!! As a surprise!!!

LOL! i was sanding away…i got about 3/4 of way thru the 2000 grit. then the call came in that i have been waiting for…i got a job. YEAH!!! but it 300 miles away from home…

ut oh…time to fix that rear main seal on my car:mad2:.

the guide coat is working perfectly…i will be able to work on the mold this evening. right now the rear main seal is priority.

I hope it’s worth the money. Especially if you move away from family. congratulations man!

thanks dallas, three solid day working on my car while my mold just sits. if i have room, im going to take the mold with me…

the job is 4 days a week 10 hours a day. so i will be home thursday night thru sunday nite. it sucks. but i gotta do it…

i just wanted to post up a little change on the steam punk vacuum machine. i noticed that the braided hoses were collapsing under vacuum. so i bought some new hose from mcmaster car. this hose is spiral wound with a steel wire and shows no sign of collapsing. i also got some quick disconnects that are vacuum rated. the hose was 1 dollar a foot and the barbed disconnects were about 7 bucks.

anyways, here are some pictures.

heres the quick disconnect.

ok fellas, my mold is just about polished up. i believe my next step is applying the frekote FMS. how many coats of the FMS do i put on the mold?

Sealer goes on clean molds. You have to strip and spray the sealer. It can be wiped on wipe off but can leave texture that way.

Your compound will need to be cleaned off with wax and grease remover. Then seal then fre kote.
