wish me luck

hey rotorage, i think this one may be better…http://www.pneuaire.com/fseprsw1.html

model no. PTF-4200-X5
(1/8" pipe thread)

what do you think dallas? do you have a similar setup?

I use venturis… And shop air. I have a pump for when I need it. No vac switch… I just let it run. I have a couple PVC resin catches a bag gauge connected to a through bag port. A resin catch with Venturi on top and pressure pot. Mines very basic. U r building a shop vacuum setup! I’m geared for portability. U save on the long haul as my compressor eats up lots ofelectricity. Just a big trade off.

Lol ur next step is building a clean room!!! Lol

i thought about going the venturi way. i have a huge 5 hp 2 stage 240v compressor behind the garage. but all i had to do was replace a seal in this pump. so it cost me virtually nothing. how loud is your venturi? im thinking its gotta be loud if they make mufflers for them. my wife would kill me running it all night…and then the compressor coming on every 15 minutes? that thing sounds like a 747 taking off…LOL

clean room, sanding room…im working on the floor in my garage…LOL. motorcycles and tools all over the place. its hard to turn around. but people are already asking me to make them parts… and i havnt even started yet…

Lol ur on the right track!!! And yes ventures sound like… A air hose that is leaking at the fitting… Bad!!!

well i started on my vacuum set up today.

first i laid it out on the garage floor. just to see the basic shape.

the propane bottle will be my main reservoir. (my wifes pretty pissed about the propane bottle. i had to steel it from our bbq. but hey at least it was empty) the little aluminum tube is just a mock up for the sub reservoir.

i had some old angle iron frames from past projects. i will cut one up for the vacuum pump assembly.

i took some measurements and cut the pieces. them laid them on the floor to make sure they were gonna work.

then i welded up the frame and added some nice rubber wheels. i think i picked them up at a yard sale awhile back. anyways i hope they keep the vibes down.

then i fit the pump into the frame. and it fit like a glove…

so far so good

thats really as far as i can go with it right now…because i ran out of parts…i want to add my resin trap to the cart also, but i dont have one yet. im looking for a paint pressure pot, or a crock pot. i have an add out on freecycle. but so far no luck. if anybody out there in so cal has an extra let me know. maybe we could trade some work for it…i looked in the kitchen for a crock pot or pressure cooker but no dice…thats probly a good thing…i think that would push my wife right over the edge. LOL

If I’m reading that correct I don’t think it’ll work. It has a good deadband and yes it’s max input is 30" but the adjustment range is only .2-5". So your pump will turn off at 5" if you adjust the switch to it’s max. The model X-30 right below it has the adjustment range you want(1.5-30"), but then it doesn’t have a good deadband. :frowning:

Nice job on the stand too. How many CFM?

the manual says 2.9cfm…will it be big enough???

now on the controller…wont i always have the hg maxed out? so really i dont even need it to be adjustable. right?

if i adjust the switch to minimum, and pull max vacuum, wont it drop .2 hg then turn the pump on? im really not sure how they rate these things.

That’s how I understood it… Your vacuum setup is sweet!!! In a steampunk kinda way!!!

Yeah your right I was reading it wrong. :embarrassed: How much do they cost?

what in the h*ll is a steampunk dallas. i hope its something good… are you making fun of my frankinvac? i’ll post up a picture of my frankinblaster…

rotorage…i found that switch online for 22 bucks i believe. do you want the link? or just curious???

tomorrow i am going to make the sub-reservoir. i was thinking of just fabbing up a tall rectangular box out of 16 gauge steel. im just not sure about it holding up to the vacuum. ive never had to make anything that needs to withstand a vacuum. pressure yes, vacuum no…

heres frankie, its a pressure fed blasting cabinet, make from an old 55 gal drum.

Bad ass!!! Steam punk is a wacky style… Mad max mixed with science fiction high technology. Kinda a nerd thing but… Cool at the same time!

Have you ever played that xbox game bio shOck? Or fall out? That’s “steam punk” kinda stuff. Like a robot that runs off a boiler and powered by steam!

I like your do it yourself ability… Super excited to see the progress!!!

STEAM PUNK! i love it…:D:D:D

That blaster is so badass… Had to say it again!

i can fit a 15" car wheel in it. i blasted and powder coated the wheels on my car…check it out.

About that vac switch. It looks like I was reading it correct the first time. I don’t think it’s going to work. If you look here you can see the switchs with the low adjustment range like the one you picked out are for low vac. Look at the difference between type 1 and type 3 and you’ll see what I mean. http://www.veneersupplies.com/products/Vacuum-Pressure-Controller-18-NPT.html

thanks roto, your right… i had to call and change my order. thank you. that would have really sucked.

i had to order the x30…i asked the guy what the dead band was and he said it was the same as the x5.:confused::confused::confused:

I think you should right up a parts list and a guide for DIY vacuum system. Specifically the wiring and fabrication. Would be a great addition to the forum Doug!!!

you think??? shoot, im not even sure if this thing is gonna work. LOL if it works when im finished, i’ll write something up.

today i made the secondary rezzy. it is 4x4x15. its made out of a piece of scrap sheet metal. im not sure of the thickness of the steel. i know its a little thicker than the 16 guage i have. again i dont know the power of vacuum so it may be over built. than again, everything i build is over built. anyways…

we went to home depot today and i got a nice piece of oak plywood for a decent table. here it is with 2 coats of epoxy curing.

I’m sure your tanks will hold find. And if they don’t at least they wont blow up like a positive pressure vessel. :wondering::eek:
How many gallons is a propane tank anyways? (I only smoke BBQ, no propane used here) :stuck_out_tongue:

Got any more pics or progress you can update?
