Which peel ply leaves the finest surface for priming?

Hi Guys, In your experience, which nylon peel ply should I buy if my goal is to leave the finest possible laminate surface. The finished laminate will be primed/painted so I’m looking for a peel ply that will minimize my prep sanding after the laminate has cured. Currently, I’m using the econostich “red stripe” nylon peel ply and the surface is somewhat fine but I’m just curious if there is something out there that will leave an even finer surface.

Critical to my application are:

  1. The peel ply must NOT be difficult to remove (it would ruin my whole day if I cant get the stuff off the laminate!)
  2. I will using the peel ply in a wet layup/vac bag setup so it must be able to bleed exess resin into the breather via perf release film when under vac.
  3. I will be priming/painting the finished laminate so the finer the weave the better.

Also, I only need 5-6 yards of the stuff so your recommendations as to who sells small qty’s in the USA would be much appreciated.

Thx!

-go to the Airtech website. If you are annoyed by the login system, use the European website at www.airtech.lu. Click products, then peelply. This gives you a list of every peelply they have.

Choose econostitch, and check the thread count per inch/cm.
Check all other peelplies for that value, higher = finer. I believe releaseply J or Econoply J is a very fine one.

Alternatively skip the peelply, and use “Compoflex 150” which leaves a smooth surface. Produced by Fibertex in Denmark. (www.fibertex.dk)

Compoflex is easy to remove and lea es a fine surface.

Ive used the teflon coated peel ply from Aircraft Spruce. Requires hardly any sanding and peels off smoothly. It’s not to tough on your budget, costing about $5 a yard.
Good luck!
