I bought a G100 dump gun so I could spray surface gel coat for mold making. The gun came with a #6 nozzle for gel coat but when I tried spraying my black tooling coat from fibreglast it dripped out of the nozzle bad. The resin is way too thin for such a large tip, I think it’s 3/16". so I’m wondering what size nozzle others are using for spraying gel coat with a dump gun?
use a regular hvlp air gun… a 1.2 nozzle will be fine, specially if your mixing it with the gloss additive…
Thanks I will try that if the cup gun doesn’t work out. I ordered a smaller nozzle to see if it helps.
I use an ordinary HVLP with 3.0 tip and some times I need to thin the Gelcoat, I have also the G200 but couldn’t make it work and get a uniform coat of Gel coat.
I use a HVLP gun with a 2.5 tip and have never had any issues. Then again I have only used it for gelcoat maybe a dozen or so times.
Ive been using HVLP spray guns. Smallest I have for gel coat I use a 1.5 tip and biggest is 3.0. I also have a dump gun but use it when I need to spray big molds.
