Hi Guys
I just need to know what all supplys I would need to my own custom ground effect kit for my 1996 pontiac sunfire and here is a picture I want for my front bumper but how hard is it to make it?
If you just want one, buy one as the process to make the plug, the mold (3x part + mold) and the first part is going to far exceed the cost to buy just one.
You can do it, but what is your end idea?
what do u mean by"making the mold"
You need a plug before the mold…
Try oue tutorials section:
what? you just don’t buy some suppliesfor $12, mix them up and they jump on the car in the shape you want.
Now, now, let’s all play nice on here.
They are here to learn, but they need directions to read and learn first hand.
I’m sorry , It was in jest, but your first answer is the correct one, If you only plan to do one piece buy it, it will be cheaper. IF you want someting “custom” is is usually better off to start with a prodution peice then play cut and paste with some cardboard or foam. then you can glass it in, spend a couple of days or weeks makeing the peice look perfect. then you take a mold off that part and lay up a part in the mold.
so for that part you are looking at the original part plus some cardboard and at least one sheet of polyurethane foam 1" should do. than you will need probably , 1 gallon of tooling gel coat, a gallon of tooling resin, a gallon of regular gel coat, a gallon of regular resin (at least, maybe 2) probably 15 yards of 1.5 oz chopped strand mat, since this is your first project I would recomend you use some scrim/angelhair/surface veil on the mold and part to help reduce air bubbles. you will also need some sand paper ranging fron 40 grit to 600 grit. now you need a small amount of PVA as a realease agent and some parting wax.then you will need some buckets to mix in, some brushes to apply, some acetone for cleanup. add it all up and you probably go out and buy 2 or 3 of the parts you want.
I would suggest a smaller project first to get your hands dirty, like maybe a gauge pod, or something that size. they seem to be a good first project and you can probably pick up most of the materials locally at the hardware store. That way you wont be spending hundereds of dollars to find out this isn’t as easy as it looks.
bricklin i would love for you to explain this to my customers that just cant belive why i dont have the part they are looking for i could sell so many of them they tell me but if it is so easy and so much money in it why are they not doing it???
I get them all the time. “Why don’t you make a hood for a ford festiva. That would sell so good” I got that one yesterday
