So where to start

Ok so I haven been reading alot and I ordered a fiber & kevlar sample pack. Ive worked with fiber glass mesh and weave. Ive redon some old dashes for people I know. I also shaved a trunk lock and antenna. They turned out perfect and have held up great. Just did some body work on a bumper that was cut up pretty badly. So I want to get into working with CF. Want to start small and work to something large like my door panel.

So whats the best choice for a clear resin/price/place to purchase?

Fiberglast seems to have high prices. Looking for a cheaper place to get fiber and aluminum glass.

Would I treat the aluminum glass in the same manner as Carbon Fiber? As far as doing a wet layup.

Now I was thinking about getting some cheap glass weave and practice with that first.

As for doing a wet lay over plastic parts what do I need to make it stick better.

Here is what the door looks like. Lot of humps. I want to cover it with CF then the center with aluminum weave.

Thanks

edit: Would 3 pints of clear Epoxy Laminating Resin be enough for both doors?

edit: http://www.uscomposites.com/kk121.html Would this work for clear coating?

you can get all your materials here and as far as resins go, you can use either epoxy or polys. What I would do is spray it with a primer first then lay on top of the primer or a thin layer of glass then lay on that. If it does raise on you then you have 2 layers of laminate to help hold it in place

Yes you can get the US Composites one or you can get it here. Free world.

dumb nOOb question here, what is aluminum glass? Sorry for the ignorant question. But it seems like we are doing similar things, see my posts on door panels.

What do you mean? I think they are reasonable.

Ok didnt know if that was a good price. Ive had a good dealing with them in the past.

EMI- Should I use a twill or mesh for the glass? I was thinking mesh because all of the local twills are just strips.

haha, sorry to mislead you. yeah their prices are a joke. My name is potterds on that site. I recently got into trouble for harassing them about their prices.

i would use just a layer of 8oz fiberglass fabric. I have never used fiberglass twill before

Ok well I wont start the Cf until the start of next year when I have a large place for projects, to many right now. I will get the first layer of glass on. Thanks.

What a lambera thread! lol j/k

Anyways looks good lambera, I can beleive you pulled all the vinyl and foam off the door card. How long did that take?

My headliner took at least 4 hrs.

Make sure you keep me updated on you CF experience. Fellow forum goer!

Nate

haha yeah it was a lambera  but when this amount of money is involved I cant help but ask again you know. Glad to see you made it over here. I worked on it like a crack head and had it all off and sanded in 2 hours. I wont start this the first part of next year when I can get a pump.
