I only get fish eyes when I have got a freshly released mould and I use a semi permanent release… I use polyester resins but I guess it would be the same regardless… I usually pull a thin glass part from the mould first if I have a problem with fish eyes. It is usually fine after the first part is pulled…
i usually use a chemical release agent, and i apply a new coat every time i make a pull from the mould. Can it be too much release agent? What about using wax? could it solve the problem?
Thanks for your answers!
Too much release can do it yes… just dont add wax over the release. I was told it is not a good thing to mix them. I release after between 5 and 10 pulls… Usually the first couple of times will be after 5 pulls then about 10 pulls later or if the part does not release quite as easily…
I´m using wax and also get some fish eyes. As mentioned, what Works nicely is to laminate a thin glass, about 1 Oz / 30 grams. It “keeps” the resin in place.
I overwet the mold’s surface and again overwet the glass, BUT I always get mini voids on the yarn’s cross. Voids are smaller as cloth is lighter, as crosses are also thinner… but watching carefully I can meet voids.
I´ve only got voids free parts by using external pressure despite vacuuming. I asume my problen is not while wetting but when vacuuming.
I´ve tryed with two plyes of perforated to avoid sucking too strong, but didn`t work, neither.
I’ll try without vacuum, but is not a solution as many times the part will have to be vacuumed.
Looking forward to read any kind of tutorial, something like “voids free laminating technique”
(not infussing YET)
