Peelply not cooperating

I am having a problem with peelply not releasing, it is being very difcult to pull off the parts once infused and cured. has anyone else experianced this?

yes, for my experience is normal, if over the peelply there is infusion network. Sometimes I pull the peelply with 2 hands

I would be happy if I get to come off with two hands. Most of the time I really have to struggle with it. In some areas it takes a pair of pliers to grab hold of it to rip it off in small pieces.

youre probably using a “natural” peel ply, the color usually is white. Look in to release coated nylon peel ply. More expensive but comes of very easily

Does anyone have any recomendations for a Release Coated Peelply?

This is what hojo is referring to this is all I ever use and pulling off the part with no problem ever!!

Check the Airtech website for release coated peelply. The USA site needs a password, so use the European website, www.airtech.lu which does not need a password.

However, release coated peelply is spectaculair more expensive. Which peelply are you using now?
there are also options in non-release-coated which are denser woven, and also release more easy.

I usually use a white with red lines peelply. Once I tried a pink peelply used for infusion, but I don’t remember well how it work. I remember that it cost abou 5€/m2, the other white 2.5€…so I have always used the second.
If I apply a liquid release on white peelply, do you think can be a way to have a better release? Liquid wax release, not POV or similar

Do you use a perforated release film between flow media and peelply.

Thanks for all your replies!

I have tried release film, but had similar results. I ordered some samples of other peel plies. The first is Compoflex CF150 from Composites One and the other is Precision Fabrics VP200SRL. SO, I’ll keep my fingers crossed and hope that one of them works better.

Guess I should have mentioned the peel ply I’m currently using is Release Ease 234 tfp-hp it a fiberglass material coated with PTFE.

That is a very light weight system, and will always come off in pieces. If you can, switch to a coated nylon release…However, nothing is perfect.
We do mostly flat plates here, and I have, on occasion thrown a part out because I can not get the peel ply off!! We use the green airtech one…sometimes it comes off, sometimes it doesn’t. We also use various resins from VER, Epoxies, BMI’s, phenolics, etc…sometimes postcure with it on too…

I believe you want to try this:

https://www.airtechonline.com/htm/defaultnetscape.htm

We use it and it peels off pretty easily. it needs a little muscle if you’re resin rich, but otherwise it should do what you need it to do.

We’ve been getting it from www.fiberglasssupply.com up in what I think is Washington. They’re a great bunch of guys and always ship on time, but I wish I could find a local source. It talks so long to reach me in south Florida, it kind of stinks. :frowning:

Hope this helps,

Alan

BigTopGT/Alan,

Are you talking about the Econolease from Airtech. Because I order the Ny-Ply from fiberglass supply, that all I have ever used and it looks like it a little cheaper if I order straight from Airtech.

Item: M05-2881
Description: Ny-Ply 19 X 60" 1.9 oz. Peel Ply, 300 Yard Roll
Nylon Release Ply 1.90z. X 60", is a nylon release peel ply designed for vacuum bag lay-up and metal to metal bonding structures. Nylon Release Ply is a tough, economical, tightly woven nylon fabric that is specially coated so polyester and epoxy resins will not bond to it.

I think the stuff we get from Fiberglass Supply is the Airtech stuff, no?

It works very well, but like I said: I wish they were closer. I can’t wait 5 days for peel ply. :frowning:

Well you might want to give illstreet composites a call and see how their peel ply is, they are in Charleston, SC you would get it a lot faster.

I have had similar problems before. The one I use is also from fiberglasssupply.com
