Mold for a Hood

I am trying to make a fiberglass or maybe carbonfiber hood. i am experianced with fiberglass so i thought this woudl be the route to take. I need to knwo how to make a mold out of the original part. i know there are two kinds female and male, but dont knwo how or which to choose.

i molds for other projects have been made of wood, but for the hood i need something to like press on to the orignal then use that “mold” to put my fiberglass in and a layer of bondo on top… please help, as u can see i am a newbie.

Since your OEM hood is considered a male mold, what you’ll need to make is a female mold.

So far you’re on the right track. Use your hood as the plug and build the mold over that. Once you’re done, remove that top part and you have yourself a female mold. Then you can lay fiberglass or carbon or whatever you want in the mold and produce your part.
