Making of a mould of eyelids on headlights

Hello people. I’d like to ask a question. Im about to make a mould off the eyelids that are glued on my headlights. I’m gonna mask the surrounding area with aluminum tape, and cardboard, and fill the gaps around the eyelids with clay so no resin gets underneath, plus i get a good surrounding area. now, what people asked me when i told them im gonna do it, is if my headlights are plastic, cause they might become foggy. doesnt make sense to me… anyway i dont want to take them off for two reasons. first they were a bitch to put on, cause they were not a good fit in the first place, so i’m gonna get a better fit if i mold them like this, then they are stuck real good.

so my main question is, is there a danger of my headlights going foggy?

I think the way headlights go foggy is when you burn something into the lens, like if you had the tape over it while it was on. for example that is why we unplug our headlights at the race track when they have tape over them…

if there is nothing no chemicals in contact with the lens then there is no possibility of etching them…

many headlights are not glass, but plastic. Plastic degrades much easier through UV, heat, cold, road-grit impacts, etc.

Resin could very easily mess up your lenses.

There was a post a while back about someone who used aluminum tape and pulled a mold from their head lights without any resin-lens interaction.

As long as the headlight lens is covered with something, there should be no problem.
My headlights along with many others out there, are foggy because the car/light manufacturer are a bunch of dolts and want people to buy new products from them. Bastards.
And the damn thing is newer than my last car, and those headlights are still clear.

yeah, i’m disgruntled.

mylar tape r flas tape(basically the same thing), and wet out your material on a piece of plastic, it will be much cleaner then on the part, tape every thing else with a plast sheet

thanks guys. actually im gonna cover the areas around with cardboard, to make a flange around the mold so it can be bagged, and i’ll cover the rest of the car , with either aluminum foil and paper tape on top, or thick paper.
