high temp adhesives???

Does any one know of any very high temp laminating resins? I am looking for a Tg of around 2000 deg.F or higher.

Also who knows what the upper service temp is for plain kevlar fabric and Carbon fiber.
Thanks
Ken

I don’t know of any but wow that is hot!! I’ll be surprised if any adhesives can handle that temperature without losing strength or rigidity. What are you using those for?

yeah its really HOT.
There is a heat treating furnace supplier next to my new shop and he is interested in sandwich panels and other applications.
The way I look at it is everybody is a potential customer for composites, if you get stuck on just cars or just boats, then you may well fail. When I go to any industrial supplier I bring samples and talk to them abou what I could do for them. it seems to work out O.K.

Oh geez. The outside world is competitive. As a student I was looking for my niche in mechanical engineering and I finally settled upon composites thinking to myself “Ahah! I’m one step ahead of my classmates. I can make composites for cars and boats!” Only now to read your post and realize I’m one step behind the real world. :frowning:

You aren’t one step behind, I just used to work for a small company that got stuck in one niche and it didn’t work out so well for any of us:( I am doing my best to avoid that fate w/ my new operation.

umm…2000F??? I wouldn’t exactly consider a resin that goes that high. Check out Starfire Systems, they have several ceramic precursors that might do what you need. Some are slurrys, some are good infusable liquids. Carbon fiber will start to oxidize and loose properties around 900f. Kevlar service I think is good till 500f…I would never go higher than that.

I am liking what I see from Starfire so far. I will call them in the A.M. Thanks for the suggestion:)
as far as the face sheets go, it doesn’t absoulutly need to be FRP skins, maybe thin steel or something. As I think I said earlier it is only a potential as of now.

Thanks
