Has anyone used peel ply for finish coat?

I was just curious, has anyone used the peel ply side as your finish surface? Personally I love it. I looks like dry carbon (or is this the same as dry carbon?) and its a nice finish minus the bling… Also what could I do to maintain this finish but protecting it from UV light?

thanks

You could put down your fiber in UV resistant gelcoat with peel ply on the outer surface. I don’t see why that wouldn’t work.

do you mean
Mold- Uv gelcoat - peel ply- cf- peel ply resinflo- bagging?

or laying it down wet and then gel over it?

I was referring to the resin infusion method… Which method were you referring to?

bumppppp =/

Hi.

Last week , I took a look at a resin infused skateboard… It was a three layer sandwich ,of glass/core/glass/core/glass.
Done using the double bag vacume method , with peel ply Finnish.
Looked cool… Nice old school Matt type Finnish.

Tim. Lurking…

i definitely like the look, im just concerned how it will weather…

Is the idea of using a peel-ply surface so that you negate using grip tape?

In my opinion you are better of using grip-tape because when the peel-ply surface becomes smooth in areas it will be difficult to fit grip-tape without having to flat the whole surface, otherwise it will not adhere properly.

Next you will be trying to make surfboards with a peel-ply surface so they don’t have to buy wax!

The guys who is building them , just doing it for the look.

Tim

correct, i am just looking for the “dry carbon” look or the “peel ply” side
