front grill mold creation

i’m planning to create a fiberglass mold from the front grill of my corolla but i’m having difficulties figuring out how to go about making the mold. i know the fiberglassing process but i need help/advice on what approach to use particularly in molding the top horizontal part…should i make a 2 piece mold and just attach the top horizontal part with the ‘U’ shape or is it possible to make a single mold for the whole part?

Hi mate, nice project.
I recently made a grill mould for the new Range Rover Evoque. And it was a 3-part mould due to needing to do separate parts for the end caps.

Are you familiar with the flanging process?
I feel you could make a 1-piece mould for the part. If you need any assistance/tips please feel free to drop me a message

If it’s just for one piece why don’t you overlay it with carbon. It can be done but it’s tricky. It should be at least a 2part mould.

A 2-part mould will be easier to make. This particular item can be done in a 1-piece mould though. It all depends how comfortable you are making moulds.

I did the Evoque mould in 3-pieces as it is far more complex in shape.
Can you post a couple of pics up of the other side of the part?

thanks for the responses guys! been busy…wasn’t able to check this post immediately.

going back to the topic…below are images of how i visualized where the 2-part mould would be separated

image 1 - the red line will completely separate the top part of the grill from the buttom part, hence making a 2-part mould

image 2 - only the middle section of the top part of the grill will be separated…the top part which includes the mounting points will be part of the 2nd mould
