FG under the kitchen sink?

Have any of y’all thought about fiberglassing under the kitchen sink? This seems to get pretty icky in most houses and the cheap shelf laminate doesn’t see to do a very good job at keeping the ickiness from soaking into the wood. So I was thinking about taking all the crap out and putting a layer of FG in there.

See any problems with that?

It would be much better to FIX the water leaks first! How about using the wife’s cooking pot to catch the drips?

The imatation marble sinks are fiberglass.

speaking of the imitation marble tops…how hard is that to do? Lowes and Home Depot want 70 and up a square foot for that crap.

If its not that bad I may just do it myself…

Ive thought about doing a black tex table top…

Just do CF - like I am

OOOOO, OK under as in counter tops! Opps…I’m bad as I thought under the sink as in the under cabinet! :o

In the original post - I DID mean under the sink. I’m just showing you what else I’m doing in the kitchen.

And I don’t have a leak (anymore  ) but the kids seem to always spill dish soap or Pinesol or something under there :stuck_out_tongue:

If you don’t mind the smell of styrene, It should be fine. Just make sure the area is clean and dry and all the old finish is off the wood, The first coat or 2 will soak in real good let it cure, sand, re-apply

bad ass…is it an overlay or did you make a mold and pop the sections?

I aint paying that kind of money for carbon though, for a countertop I can see using the black tex…Im guessing I could use my surfboard resin to overlay and then just sand it and float some bar top epoxy to build the last thick layer.

I WANTED to make a mould, but didn’t have the time or will to do it. So I just overlaid them.

That pic was taken before I did any sanding and finishing. It looks a lot better now.

what resins did you use? Id be terrified of using regular resin and having kitchen utensils all over it. Might get f@#ked up no? Perhaps make someone sick?

ah yes the adventures of good old carbon fiber

On PER styrene odors: get the odor suppressor liquid and only 66cc per 55 gallon drum.
BIG DIFFERENCE!

Use surfboard or sanding resin which has surfacing agent in it (liquid wax) and wax a polish after to seal any resin contact out!

I used the Famowood Glaze Coat epoxy. It “says” its for counter tops and bars and stuhhh

How did you like using it? I used it once for a project when i was just starting.
