F.A.O the carbon overlay people

Ive been trying to overlay this inside trim piece from my car for ages now with no success, i can git the big piece right ie the weave (twill) but when it comes to the flat peice with the hole in it because of the curves the twill bunches up like mad and just looks a mess,

any tips or tricks please ?

please help lol…Matt

Start laying the cloth on the flat piece you have trouble with,The cloth will distort when you go over on to the other surface but will be easier to work with as its a larger area to get the cloth down even. You have to accept some distortion when working with complex shapes.

or do it with two pieces of cloth. Do on piece, finish off that area… leave the resin glossy ( no sanding) then do the other part. There will be a slight line where the two weaves meet up after resin and sanding.

preety imposible to make this piece preety by overlaying it… i vote make a mold, and then use 2 pieces of carbon for the part.

I agree with Aga, it will be a butt load easier to do this part if you made a mold for it.

If you take the shape and the depth the mold would be on this little part it is still goin to be nearly impossible to lay up without getting some distortion on the twill although personally I would go down the mold route too.If the guy only does overlays that isnt an option.
