Easy composite polyester gel coat

Greetings all
I am sure many of us have seen the video tutorials of easy composite on you tube and in one clip they use GC50 epoxy compatible polyester gel coat. I like the fact that it can be brushed or sprayed and ready for infusion in 2-3 hours. Problem is shipping costs to get them in us.
Are there any products similar to this available in us?
I use adtech 820 epoxy for all my infusions and looking for a good clear gel coat.

Same here.

Q?
Have you tried contacting distributers of resins/composite materials?

I use a lot of different companies to resource material. One of the processes I do require carbon parts to be painted. In this I side step using gelcoat to save weight. For these parts I spray in a primer and infuse.
The finished part comes out ready to be cosmetically prepared at seam and flange points, where surface primer will be applied anyway. And the main part is primed and ready to topcoat sooner.

At the SAMPE convention I spoke with the Revchem Rep about this and gave me a part number for a vinyl ester surface coat that works well in this case.

I understand your looking for a clear coat. You may find what you need by contacting the Epoxy resin manufacturer you use, or other companies that handle gelcoat

Contact easy composites and ask them who manufactures the gelcoat.

Scott Bader do an epoxy compatible polyester Gelcoat. Maybe they have a shop somewhere near you

I looked in a new “Fiberlay” catalog briefly and found vinyl ester clear #419

comes in qt-gal-tub. I’ve never used it so I can’t tell you much
also the sell ultraviolet absorbers (resin additives)
they have a store in San Diego, Portland, Seattle, & Miami

Is vinyl ester compatible with epoxy?

Some vinyl esters are a modified epoxy.

Hey Tom Irwin, jealous you made it to SAMPE this year. I had to be in Ohio for those days. Do you plan on returning next year ?

when it’s in town I go. I’m trying to remember how long I’ve been going, I know it’s been since the 80’s since I was in the composite shop with the Flying Tigers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_Tiger_Line)
we were bought out by Fedex in 89’

Nice ! I’ll try to remember next year and meet up with you. I remember the FLying Tiger freight planes back when I was living in Missouri, before Fedex took over.
