Duratec Surfacing Primer over epoxy?

I have a couple of plugs that were built using foam, fiber glass & epoxy. The current surface is epoxy/microballoon sanded to 320 grit & fully cured at room temp. Will Duratec Surfacing Primer adhere to this surface if sprayed on? Is there a barrier layer I should apply 1st that will ehance the bonding of the Duratec to the epoxy base?

Or…

Is there another epoxy compatible surfacing material that can be sprayed, sanded & polished to a class A finish?

The molds built from these plugs will have an epoxy tooling coat as the 1st layer if that makes any difference.

Thanks

Bob

I would sand to atleast 180.

Thanks Dan. After reading the product info at Duratec’s site, I just wanted to see if there were any other steps that some one may have come across to make sure it bonded to the epoxy. Just sanding seems too simple!

Thanks again for the help - Bob

You might need a tie coat Bob. Unless you’re using the System 3 epoxy. They claim that you can apply polyester to their cured epoxy without a tie coat.

I don’t even know what a tie coat is, well I know what it is but what would you use for it?
