Duratec Surface Primer over Plastic

Hey guys, im about ready to make a mould of a Plastic Engine cover that I have bondo’ed and modified slightly. I was planning on using duratec surface primer.

Should I be concered with spraying the Duratec over plastic or should I used a plastic primer first like Rustolium Plastic primer.

Will the duratec bondo to the plastic primer??

Thanks

It depends entirely on the type of plastic you are trying to paint. The best product to use would very likely be something used to paint plastic car bumpers.

use a good adhesion promoter.

What would you recommend?

You need to find out what type of plastic you are looking at, before its going to be possible to make any useful specific recommendations.

speaking from personal experiance, I have sprayed duratec on ABS interior trim prior to mold making. On most of the parts the duratec was very much intact after demolding. Only on a couple was there some form of pulling.
I sanded all the parts very agressivley with 60 grit paper then sprayed sanded away the plastic nibs that stuck out with 320 and resprayed, wetsanded then final polish. long process but it beats sanding the molds

I went to a local Autobody supply and got “BullDog Bond Flex and Tie-Coat”
Its a 3-1 Adhesion Promotor, Flex Agent and Tie Coat. The guy at the shop told me I should have no issue with the duratec over it.

Will see what happens later

Thanks guys
