Duratec In-Mold application

For those of you who use Duratec clear top-coating in the mold.
How long do you generally wait before laminating or infusing?

I usually give it an overnight cure but was just reading some info on the Duratec site that says it can be laminated/infused with-in 30-40 minutes. This kinda bugs me that I didn’t read that before, so much time wasted :frowning:

Not a Duratec specific comment here, but most surface coats/gelcoats can be laminated upon becoming tacky but not gooey. The 30-40 minute window you mentioned sounds quite reasonable.

I always let the Duratec cure ie not tacky to touch, which depending on curing temp is usually within a few hours. you could lay up on when tacky as long as your part/mold is not complicated. Most of my parts are fairly complicated so i spray 77 tac in stages so i can get the carbon down with a good weave.

OT but do you guys wear ventilation masks and goggles when spraying the gelcoats?

YES! Safety first…ok, students, don’t bag on me as I need to lecture to you while I’m spraying:rolleyes:.

tisk tisk! lol, of all the fumes that permeate in my shop thats the one that I hate the most. I always wear the darth vadar voice reconstructor err respirator

Thanks everybody.

…but we have a full on spray booth and I stand up stream when spraying…and those that don’t listen to me, end up over spraying back onto themselves…
