Degassing Chamber

I used some butyl rubber sheet, i think silicone rubber sheet will work too?

Did you buy a 12x12 sheet and just trace the ring and cut it out?

Right now I’m using a 6inch pvc coupling with bagging taped 1/2 inch polycarbonate sheet on bottom and the same on the top. I ended up taping the top and cutting a plastic bag ring seal to go around it to make due but there’s still leaks, I then sealed it with bagging tape but it’s a real pita to remove every time you degas your resin.

I have it hooked up directly to my pump and a release valve going out the other side.

Use a foam rubber on one side.

Is that stuff still going to give me an airtight seal after I cut it the circumference of my pvc coupling so I can see through my polycarbonate top?

I buy it (foam rubber) in narrow rolls, self adhesive. Section is some 1/2" wide and less than 1/4" thick. But a soft solid rubber should work as well.

Can you post a link so I know exactly what product you’re talking about?

cellrubber could be the word to search for.

If you weren’t in the netherlands I’d give you a hug, haha.

I assume if I get the sheet to just cut a circle to fit.

I think this would work. I’ll be ordering some soon.

I used a SBR rubber 5 mm plate. It’s easy to cut, I cut it with a laser.

So I went to Home Depot and picked up some weather stripping. It’s by frost king and says 100% waterproof. There’s a good amount to choose from but I got that one. It works great except that it’s very very soft. When I did a few pulls in my chamber it compressed completely and hardly rebound at all. Not sure how long it’ll last and I forget if they had thicker stuff there but I’ll be searching for a backup solution.

Until then I have a roll to cycle through so I can always just take the old off and replace it with new. It was about $4 for the roll.

Yes, the foam rubber will compress totally flat, but usually rebounds after releasing pressure.

Hi, Could be a good idea make a seal using silicone or urethane casting for molds?

If the silicone is too soft perhaps, would break ?

Greetings

Silicone is not too soft. You just need a perfect flat surface.

Be careful when you try your home made degassing chamber

WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW Use your BRAIN!!!

What happened to it? Did it implode?

I supose so!

Was that glass they were using or did glass just break when something exploded… If so I’m not surprised it happened.

Just imploded. Avoid flat parts. One of my customers had 2x450mm lids implode. (but then again, he misused them…)
