Degassing Chamber

If you weren’t in the netherlands I’d give you a hug, haha.

I assume if I get the sheet to just cut a circle to fit.

I think this would work. I’ll be ordering some soon.

I used a SBR rubber 5 mm plate. It’s easy to cut, I cut it with a laser.

So I went to Home Depot and picked up some weather stripping. It’s by frost king and says 100% waterproof. There’s a good amount to choose from but I got that one. It works great except that it’s very very soft. When I did a few pulls in my chamber it compressed completely and hardly rebound at all. Not sure how long it’ll last and I forget if they had thicker stuff there but I’ll be searching for a backup solution.

Until then I have a roll to cycle through so I can always just take the old off and replace it with new. It was about $4 for the roll.

Yes, the foam rubber will compress totally flat, but usually rebounds after releasing pressure.

Hi, Could be a good idea make a seal using silicone or urethane casting for molds?

If the silicone is too soft perhaps, would break ?

Greetings

Silicone is not too soft. You just need a perfect flat surface.

Be careful when you try your home made degassing chamber

WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW Use your BRAIN!!!

What happened to it? Did it implode?

I supose so!

Was that glass they were using or did glass just break when something exploded… If so I’m not surprised it happened.

Just imploded. Avoid flat parts. One of my customers had 2x450mm lids implode. (but then again, he misused them…)

I used Liquid Gasket Maker, the type that stays flexible after its cured, applied a nice bead around the top of my old pressure cooker and then I placed the 25mm lexan plate on the top. (The plate must be prepared with some form of release agent beforehand so that it doesnt stick, or one can use oil but its messy) The seal is perfect and durable.

Instead of oil, use petroleum jelly (vaseline)
