CNC Pattern work

Our shop has recently added 5 axis cnc router pattern making to it’s capabilities. How many on this forum are currently designing in CAD and possibly looking for CNC cut patterns.

Neat machine, maybe someday I could get one. Look forward to seeing more of its abilities. Thanks!

How coincidental! I had just sat down at my computer to post some questions on this very subject and saw your thread. By the way, I visited your web site a couple of days ago and it took me back to my old racing days. That’s a very nice machine.
Anyway, I just started with an introductory course in Autocad at an area college near me. I had to start there to be able to get into the Solidworks program. This is alot to take in for an old guy like me. I plan to aquire a 3 axis router sometime in the future, but in the interim will need to out source some plugs I need made.

Like the Renishaw and love your products!

kjcastor,

After reviewing a supplied cad file, can you give an accurate quote for custom work off your machines based on time and materials?

Jon

Jon,

I’d greatly appreciate the opportunity to take a look at your part. send me a file and I’ll take a look.
What kind of materials are you wanting it cut out of ?

At present, I have nothing drawn in cad. It’s my goal to have at least two of my items constructed in cad within a two month period. At present I can’t reveal publicly what I’m doing untill I get my copywrite issues completed. I would like to have molds machined out of alluminum but it wouldn’t be cost effective for me to do so. A better allternative would be, since they will be a two part mold, to have each half of the plug machined with parting board in place. This way I could construct multiple molds for increased production. A high density tooling board, I’m guessing, would be ideal. Is tooling board substantial enough, if finished properly, to expect to pull say 4 molds from?

Jon

tooling board if properly processed can be used repetitively. The cost of tooling board is higher than natural wood but i believe worth the extra cost. High temp high density tooling board will cost about $25.00 per board foot= 144 cubic inches
