Absolutely. After all the trim work is done, I start building layer after layer of Silmar surfboard resin. The trick is to get as much of a build up of resin as you can while keeping each coat as level and even as possible with no drips or runs. Once I have enough of a build, (usually about 4 coats) I finish it off with one more coat of the surfboard resin with sanding aid, surfacing wax, paraffin polymer, or what ever its called in your particular neck of the woods. Then I machine sand, starting with 180 to take the surface down to a smoother finish, just barely working the resin until there are no more shiny spots (low points). Then I block it all down to 600 if im going to clear coat. If im not going to clear it, then I just continue to block it wet down to 3000 and buff.
Nothing short of spectacular! Well done!
When you do overlays, do you let a coat of resin tac before laying the cloth or do you use something like Super 77?
I always use epoxy or vinylester resin for my tack cote. 77 will release from your part once you saturate the fibers. If you have a vertical surface or a complex contour, the fabric will rise around the edges.
RESPECT DUDE.
Thank you very much. That goes to everyone else as well. I really enjoy being a part of this forum. The positive vibe, and every ones eagerness to learn from each others trials and errors will keep me posting and following for a long time. I have witnessed on other forums alot of negativity and people showing a complete lack of respect for others just because they feel entitled to do so for whatever reason. I hope to “keep on keepin’ on” as they say where im from, and I look forward to continue following and learning as much as I can from everyone else here.
