Carbon Fiber: From Earth to end product

The first two videos are about the manufacturing process needed to make the precursor of Carbon Fiber. Knowing oil is the “enemy” of the world the second video should make some people happy.

The third and fourth video show the conversion of the precursor to carbon fiber. The third video is the conventional method and the fourth shows the Microwave assisted Plasma conversion.

The fifth video shows from spool to end product or you can view the SGL/BMW production process thread to watch a better video on spool to end product. http://www.compositescentral.com/showthread.php?t=4492

From $15/lbs to $4/lbs.

Now how to recycle composites?

Recycling? Ok  Here is a good video from SAMPE Carolinas June Conference. Go from an F-15 to a Corvette then to a computer case then to a…

Reclaiming the Carbon Fiber takes 96% less energy then it does to make a virgin fiber. Boeing calculated that the 787 scrap will be enough to power 500,000 homes in the Seattle area for 1 year.

SO who wants to go into the recycling business with me.

Haha I was only kidding about the recycling biz. Now don’t everyone jump up at once to become partners. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m in, partner…
