bond to nylon?

I would like to incorporate a machined nylon part in some fiberglass. I will be laying up by hand. I’m thinking epoxy would stick better than poly/vinylester. Would the bond be purley mechanical in which case I should drill holes in my part and let resin fill?

Any experience or advice appreciated

I don’t know aout the ability to bond nylon. PE can be bonded if you burn the surface and that way change the molecular structure, maybe you could do the same with nylon. If i remember correctly bonding to nylon is very hard.

If you can make holes in your nylon part, you could slide some rovings into them. You can’t rely on resin only.

Nylon can be bonded with some methacrylates (Plexus MA310 icm primer PC120 is one of them).

Furthermore, if you want gap fill up to 2mm, you can use:

Araldite 2029 (PUR based)
Araldite 2021 (MMA based)
Araldite 2031 (EP based)

So plenty of choice…

Just make sure you really have nylon, and not Delrin. Glueing delrin is a completely different game.
