We have a customer that wants us to match this type of 2x2 carbon fiber. We use a 6oz 2x2 twill. The carbon fiber piece next to our 6oz is the one we are looking for. It’s obviously 2x2 as well but it’s a lighter weight carbon fiber.
That looks like some pretty rare 2K carbon. 1K carbon is more available, but that the carbon in the photo does look quite fine enough to be 1K. It’s hard to tell from the pictures. Maybe it is 1K. What is the thread count per inch?
Either way you need to get your pocket book ready. 1K carbons can be over $100 per yard. Sometimes you can find some “cheap” pitch based 1K for around $70.
None of my sources presently have 2x2 1K carbon available. Only plain weave.
I’ll give the weave a count tomorrow :). Thanks wyowindowkrs!
Could be a smoth spread 1k or a fine wooven 3k. Both are rare, not easy to get them. The Producer ECC, but they only supply to big distributors.
The one on the bigger part is a 200 gr, the other is a 245.
It seems like having a smaller tow, but it’s only more compacted. There are more of them per inch.
That makes good sence. I want some!
In the larger panel the thread count is 14 per inch. The smaller part with the tighter weave has 16.
Soller composites offers 2x2 in 12.5, 14, and 17 pics. I’ve used all three and really like the higher density 17 pic.
I don’t think that it’s a 3K fabric.
I think that is a 1K 2.5 ounce fabric (16x16 or 15x15)
It’s really hard to tell from the pictures though.
