'98 Glanza front spoiler

Hello again. I completed the molds for a front lip spoiler for the '98 glanza, and they are A REAL BITCH to demold. i don’t know how the chinaman (who did the FRP copy i copied  ) was making his own, but i had real problems removing the originals from the mold.

this is the front spoiler, comes in two pieces.

this is one of the molds

the one of my plugs got a couple of cracks while demolding, as for the other, i did a surgical cut underneath and repaired it afterwards with a bit of carbon (its gonna be painted anyway)

so, what to do what to do…

because of the complexity of the mold and the sheer lack of success i had with infusion and vaccum bagging lately, i decided to pull a product out using little material, so it will be thin, and then overlay it with carbon. i chose to use 2-3 layers of 100 grm twill and plain weave fiberglass, and epoxy resin (with black pigment)

this way, it would be flexible enough to be stretched, pulled and twisted out of the mold, and then overlaid…

here’s my first attempt, quite successful i would say. I used no gelcoat, cause it wasnt needed, and saved time and money.

in this mold and the part i used PVA, sprayed with an 1.6 nozzle. i am very happy with it.As long as you have patience in spraying it ,it’s very rewarding.

overlay pics soon to come.

Hi,

How many coats of PVA do you spray on?
I’ve tried it through my normal (paint) spray gun, but always end up with lots of air bubbles in it, I do think my problem is trying to get it to cover in one go though and probably need lighter coats.

Thanks.

maybe your PVA is non sprayable! what color is it. The one i spray is dark green (petrol like) . i have another which is clear, and if you try to spray that, its a disaster.

I spray 5-6 layers, until the mold looks dark green.

Blue!
