Wrapping around a small foam core (help)

I have a 18x1x.5in piece I need to wrap.

No fancy bagging or anything, not set up for it. Just a normal wet layup with epoxy/glass.

I was using heavier cloth, just bought some “4oz” (.008) I’d like for this layup to come out this time without using a bunch of materials. The surface is getting paint, but it needs to be wrapped tight, without air bubbles.

Whats the trick of the trade here? The cloth wouldn’t fold around and stay that last attempt. I’m using Belhm or US composites thin epoxy, fillers on hand.

Well bagging is generally the answer!
Alternatively, you could use electrical insulation tape but will produce a poor quality product and surface finish

What shape are you wrapping around ??

I’d 3m 77 in place and then use heat shrink tubing over it. Makes a great smooth result.

Couple of ideas

1/ Resin coat foam first allow to cure to tacky stage then wrap cloth around using tack of the b epoxy to hold in place.

2/ Resin coat foam first allow to cure fully then use spray glue 3m 77 to fix fabric in place then laminate

1&2 Wrap with a release coated high shrink tape (think like tape on hocky stick handle) use hot air gun to shrink heat evenly.

It’s a simple foam 1/2x1 rectangle, 18 in long. Corners slightly rounded (1/16.) Foam is Owens corning special from Home Depot.

It does not need to be smooth, as it’s getting paint. I’m not worried to sand a bit. Air under glass is my concern - it must be bonded.

I like the tacky/green stage idea. Let it kick a bit and wrap. I’m not sure how something like super77/90 would go (might melt foam)

I also have a few yards of peelply here (the proper green stuff) I was thinking about wrapping a strip around a taping it.

Source?

Looks like a cool product
