workshop help

where did everyone making their parts at? garage? or own a workshop? I did my parts at a garage that I rent out but the people who live above start to complain, I don’t want to stop all these composite stuff that I learn (I enjoy it very much). So what kind of places would you guys recommend? if anyone live in socal do you know any places that I can rent out?

What are the people complaining about? Smell, noise, mess, etc? You’d probably have to look in the local classifieds and stuff for somewhere to rent out.

I always did my stuff in my apartment. Not much room, but I only did small parts.
Now I do it at work, which has all the equipment I need.
One day, if i get a house and not allowed to do personal stuff at work, I might get a shed of sorts.

people complain about the smell.
how do you work in the apartment? doesn’t it smell in your apartment?

As I stated in my PM to you, sign up for Cerritos college composites classes and do your work there.

Switch from PE resins to epoxies? lol

I caught hell from my roommates one time that I used PE to make a mold…in the garage…yes, it stunk up the whole house! Now, I find other places to make the molds, and then when I lay up the parts, use epoxy resin (West System), which I must say…smells pretty good!

Have you tried Styrid? Richmond Aircraft in Norwalk, CA supposedly carries it but they never returned my call:mad:

Maybe I’ll just burn a bunch of aroma candles instead, it’s probably cheaper anyway.

So there’s no fume from epoxie? and what does styrid really do? does it make pur have no fume?

Epoxy has an almond-ish smell to it, not as bad as poly resins in terms of strength. And Styrid is supposed to get rid of the poly resin smell, just a few drops, is what I’ve heard. Let me know if you get into contact with Richmond.

Yup…but if the smell was overly bad, I would put it outside on the patio. Else I do it before work, and the smell would clear out by the end of the day.
I also use epoxies of sorts (uscomposites.com epoxy systems), so it didn’t smell TOO bad.
Only the tool resins smelled bad.

Revchem (Sher fab too) also has PER odor suppressors too…

Rez, I still have lots of PER odor suppressor and call me…I might want to trade back for some other resins I gave you…

I did sent Hybrid some to try out but he had some set backs on other things in life…like myself.:frowning:

I’ll be testing it myself I hope this weekend in an open air place…
