Working with milled fibers

I have had a lot of people ask me about square edges and also how to work with milled fibers so here is a little show and tell on the processes I use.

I am doing a door panel insert mold that is not flanged. In the second picture you can see the square edge where my finger is pointing. If I were to just lay fiberglass in there it would create a large air pocket the length of the part. I use 2 different types of milled fibers. Fiberglass fibers and kevlar pulp.

First I would get about a eight of a quart of VER or PER. I am using VER in my drum for this application. I would use half fiberglass fiber and half kevlar pulp. I mix this with the resin till it has about an applesauce consistancy. I would then use a tongue depressor to apply the mix to where is needed. I make sure there is no air trapped and then use the top of the stick to make a smooth surface out of it.

Then i will clean off all my edges so there is no mixture where it is not supposed to be. Here is what it look like finished

hey i do the same thing with cabosill on fiberglass parts but does this shadow real bad on clear gell?

instead of using resin i have used gell before

I have never tried anything on clear gel coat.
