Ive been planning out my process on making molds for a set of motorcycle fairings.
The fairings are just a white gelcoat surface, not 100% so ill be cleaning them up and spraying them with an Epoxy Primer (duratec 408 black) and getting them really smooth/shiny.
I was then going to proceed to make molds on them using a polyester gelcoat and resin.
Ive seen a couple threads showing gelcoats “eating” the plug surface etc due to incompatibility/reaction. Im assuming my polyester gelcoat wont react with the expoxy primer ill have my plug sprayed in…Is that a safe assumtion? I’ll be using wax as my release agent as thats all ive ever used and it seems to work perfectly, although id like to try something quicker (waxing takes forever) but still achieve the same surface gloss as a nice wax job.
So my questions are;
with my gelcoat destroy my plug surface?
Is wax ok to use as the sole release agent?
Thanks in advance!
