White dots

Ok It looks fine till I sand it.Then the dots show up. Didnt happen on the first side .Its a over lay ,no vac .Never had this before and it sands out but i have to sand the crap out of it.What causes this and is there a ez fix? ok

Thanks

Looks like some pinholes.

I also sometimes get these with overlay work.
Can someone point out the best way to avoid them?

Before sanding it’s probably hard to see the pinholes. Once you sand, the holes fill with white dust from sanding and now they are visible. If you want to get rid of the keep sanding!

edit: if they aren’t pin holes to start with then they are air bubbles in the resin, and once you sand you open them up and allow the dust in.

I had this problem too when I first started experimenting with PE (S249). I’m pretty sure they’re air bubbles trapped near the surface that you break open when sanding, and then they become filled with dust. I noticed that they only really appeared on surfaces that weren’t horizontally flat to gravity - they were only on vertical walls etc. So I guess what happened was they couldn’t rise vertically to the surface, because the surface was to the side, and that’s why they didn’t outgas like a normal wet layup would.

I would recommend that you just degas the hell out of your resin, but I never fully sorted the problem out myself because I moved away from overlays.

Yes that is right .Im about to move on as well ,start making some molds. So just degas and sand? ok thanks guys
