I need to find white carbon prepreg 200g ish 3k twill any ideas? I’ve been told it’s out there where can I get it from? I need it for a certain “look”. Let me know what you think .Need help. Thanks
White carbon does not exist, look for white design fabric.
Has anyone heard of Texalium it’s anadized e glass ?can you get it in a prepreg form?
Texalium is aluminized twill fiberglass. It’s more of a sheet than a cloth and wouldn’t contour to compound curves very well if at all.
If I had to relate the feel of it to something I would say that it has the stiffness of a light card stock.
Barracuda from BGF is amazingly drapable. I don’t see any difference between that, and a normal fiberglass.
White carbon fiber does not exist, nor ANY other color. if you see a vendor selling something like that, email/call and bitch them out.
Talking to my supplier, he seemed to think that many moons ago there was a “white” carbon fibre. It was made by way over carbonizing the carbon, sort of like ash from a fire. It destroyed the material proprieties so was no use at all, it was more a experiment to see what would happen than a product to sell.
I know the precursor is white normally…not sure if yo can ash CF.
TO THE FURNACE!
If you ash CF you will have ash. The CF is the charcoal before making a BBQ and the ashed CF is like the charcoal after the BBQ
But I can tell you that burned CF is still black.
Does Dynema stay white after saturating? I only used it in layers in the middle, so I could not see if it changed the coulour.
Hey I’m just going on what he told me and he told me what he had been told. So there is a good chance that something has been lost in the telling of the story over the years.
I can supply a sort of white carbon fiber.
It has a density of approx 2,6 g/cm3
It has the same strength as glass
It becomes transparent/greenish after impregnation
It is available in all styles glass comes in.
The price is 30x the glass price. Free delivered around the globe…
If this is Jeopardy I would say
What is glass fibre
Dynemma stays white. Sometimes it can go slightly translucent, but I’ve only had that happen with Spectra braid and TPU resin.
I have previously used a carbon fibre/dynemma hybrid cloth in a lay up. You get a black and white appearance. It is strange stuff to work with tho… Not sure i would ever use it again out of choice altho it did look funky!
This is all good stuff .Do any or you have any photos?
Dyneema/Spectra might be a bit costly… If you want a white fiber that doesn’t change color when wet-out, you can try Innegra (HMWPP fiber). Their site is www.innegratech.com, and they have plants/operations in the US and Europe. Extremely low density (around 0.8-0.9g/cc impregnated with resin), and stays white…assuming your resin stays transucent as well. Very tough stuff, and could work well as an aesthetic layer.

Dynemma in 2 various versions. All thermoplasticly used, no thermoset resins.
