Where to buy infusion perforated peel ply in the US?

Hi guys,
I’m looking for a place in the US to buy perforated peel ply for infusion, so for example: an Airtech P, P1, P16 or MP22 style (or anything else with open area of greater than 1%) - not the normal perf peel ply that you see at most online retail stores (which is usually p3 style). So far, I’ve only been able to get it direct from Airtech as a sample. The smallest roll they have is 2000 ft (!) and costs 600 dollars (!!!). I really don’t care what the actual peel ply is made out of (RB125, Wrightlon etc) because I’ll be using them in RT cure scenarios.

Anyone know a good place to get it in the US? Or that’ll ship to the US for a price that doesn’t break the bank?

Thanks!

Chetan

I don’t know of anyone in the states that stocks alternates to P3 and sells cut yardage. Your best bet if you are only looking for a few yards might be to talk to Airtech and ask them for the name of other companies that purchase what you are looking for and see if they would be willing to part with a small amount

That’s a good idea, I might have to try that. I spoke to Jon over at Soller Composites yesterday to see if they could pick up a roll and start retailing it, he seemed to be interested in the idea. Hopefully they’ll do so; I’ll let you guys know what happens.

I just put in an order for some Airtech WL3600 with P perf. We should have it in 3 weeks or so. I will put it on our website when it comes in. We will be selling cut yardage.

Great! Looking forward to seeing it up there. For anyone that’s interested, their website is www.avtcomposites.com .

I’ll keep you guys posted on what Soller decides to do

See if CompositesOne or Northern Fiberglass Sales will sell short rolls.

waiting on a callback from compositesone, nfg said the smallest rolles are 1000 feet but referred me to fiberglast; already knew I probably didn’t have a shot but gave them a call anyways… guy on the other end had no idea what I talking about.

still haven’t heard back from Soller but i’ll keep you guys posted when I do. I’ll probably give them a call today.

I spoke to Soller today. It could be as little as two week before they start showing the stuff available for sale on their website. Right now it looks like it’s going to be a Darlar RB125 film in the P style perforation (1.27% open area which should be plenty big enough for infusion). Depending on what’s available it might end up being in the WL3700 type film instead of RB125, which would make it a bit more expensive.

Here’s a list of the Airtech perforation styles. P3 is the essentially ubiquitous style available for sale through online retailers.

We will have some WL3900 with P perf the middle of next week. It will take a few days to get it on the website but it can be purchased before then by calling us at 317.546.6840. Price will be $4.50 before the usual qty discounts.

The perf film is now on the website along with resin transfer media. More infusion products to be added soon.

We would typically refer to a peel ply as a woven fabric while release films are thin films.

We offer a perforated low temp release film. http://www.fibreglast.com/product/low-temperature-release-film-1580/Vacuum_Bagging_Films_Peel_Ply_Tapes

Whoops!
Sorry about that… you’re definitely right, the heading should ask for a perforated release film. My bad. If a mod can change the title to fix this error for future reference, that’d be great.

Soller hasn’t made any moves on picking up a P perf style film in the last 2 weeks. If they do pick up a film, I think it’s going to be in either Airtech WL5200 or A4000 style.

However, I spoke to Airtech directly again and it turns out you can order a single roll of Dahlar RB1G25 PRF in P style directly from them.

1 60" wide 1 mil roll is 333 yds (1000ft) and costs about 525 bucks. Not too bad IMO. I might end up picking up one of these on my own if Soller doesn’t decide to

Also, FibreGlast, based off those numbers you gave me (.045" dia holes on 1/2" centers), it looks like you’re offering an Airtech p34 equivalent. That only has a 0.32% open area which, from my testing, is no where near enough for good wet out with infusion (my resin is about 600cps). I was using a P16 sample that has 0.8pct open area and that still wasn’t good enough (although I think with just slightly thinner resin it would’ve done the trick).

Good day gents,I have a question.Could you not just make it yourself?I ask because I’m looking for some for a small part,i have some P3 and thought why can I not just add more holes?

Great forum learned a lot.

Cheers.

Buy some non-perf release film, put some nails in a 2x4 and start punching holes. I’ve been at one of the big “3” aero companies while they do it.

That’s what I was thinking, for a small 2 sq/yd piece might as well just punch my own holes.

Thanks.

In case anyone is interested, Soller DOES have RB125 with P perf. Picked some up a couple days ago. It is not listed on his site, but if you ask he has plenty.

I did not put this up until today because I thought you were looking for peel ply
(very fast shipping)

Tom, I actually looked into that one and it is also a P3 perforation (or so I was told) - not P1 or MP22.
