Where can I buy Derakane Momentum 400-100 vinylester infusion resin?

Where in the heck can a guy buy some Derakane Momentum 400-100 vinylester infusion resin? I’ve been scouring the internet and can’t find anyone that sells it. I’m making some mods on an aircraft that was constructed using Derakane 411-45 vinylester resin and eglass and thought using the same brand resin would be a great way to guarantee compatibility for secondary bonds.

Don’t know if it was a home build or factory but if it’s factory built I would think they buy it from the resin manufacture since they would be buying in such large quantities. Since you need a small quantity you probably wont have a lot of luck unless a distributor is a member of this forum(and sees your post) like Herman who gets all the good stuff in large quantities… Maybe you could find a compatible resin that gives you piece of mind (safety), even though I know that wont be easy either. Sorry I couldn’t suggest a resin, just my 2 cents is all I have…

Do not try and work your way up (starting at the outlet points), but work your way down from the top: the manufacturer.

Contact Dow, and ask them for a couple of distributors, or better, a workshop where you can drop by, armed with a few empty cans.

Unfortunately I am not well introduced in the USA, so I cannot help you much further.

Rotorage: The aircraft is a Glasair. The fuselage/wings/surfaces are all sandwich core (1/4" to 1/2" foam core w/2-4+ layers of eGlass vinylester resin) from the kit manufacturer. The builder then installs the wing ribs, bulkheads, joins the sandwich core shells, etc, etc via hand layups using Derakane 411-45. I think the factory utilizes wet layups/vac bagging (not vac infusion) but I could be wrong. As far as I know the only resin they sell is the 411-45 and a fire retardant version of the same resin for the firewall forward laminates.

Herman: Good idea… I’ll try reaching out to Dow today and see what I can find out.

I only need a gallon or so (I’m thinking) as I just want to try my hand at vac infusion to create a 4 ply (style 7781 BID eGlass) precured laminate 14"x36" or so that I can use as stock to cut some flanges that are needed to patch 10-11 holes (6"x8" rectangles actually) in the wing skin that I had to cut for some mods. Do I have to use vac insusion? No… I could make the precured laminate using hand layup techniques but I really want to try my hand at vac infusion.

I’m thinking of vac infusion for a couple of other parts (bigger, more sigificant) of my project too so it’s not just the precured laminate that I’m building…

Lastly, I suppose I could use some other brand vinylester infusion resin so long as it will bond as well and have the same durability as the Durakane 411-100 infusion resin.

Thoughts?

I hope this thread didnt die! Can any of you pro’s recommend a vinylester infusion resin that will have similar qualities (strength) to and be compatible with Derakane 411-45? Please also include the name of a USA distributor that will sell it me as little as 1 gallon.
