When did people first start making prepreg?

Doing a search on youtube for composite and came across this video from NASA. It’s old but still had two good parts. One is where they talk about the first prepregs ever made and the other is where they show the manufacturing of prepreg and when it goes threw the oven. Not very much to watch but I thought it was interesting to see the impregnated fabric smokes when it goes threw the oven to turn to a b-stage.

Dang Rotorage, you find the coolest and strangest videos relating to composites!

You should witness polymer film casting. a plastic liquified in a solvent, is doctored over a carrier layer, sent through an oven, and is a solid plastic at the end. When I demoed a unit, not only was there a nice amount of solvent smoking off (NWP? NMP? eh), but it was bubbling inside the slowly drying film. The solvent also ate away at the exhaust stack’s paint…and dripped condensate on the film. Small technicality
