What's it called?

I used a product before that is a thin foam, cut into small squares in a grid pattern and backed by a type of glass cloth. It’s flexible and is great for making initial molds/patterns.

Anyone know? Or, are there any alternatives that are similar/better?

Scrim cloth foam. Usually in 1"1/4 blocks square.

When smaller (5/8" blocks) they usually call it mini-scrim cloth.

When even smaller, it might be reprocessed by a trader. If the foam was yellow and tough, it might have been C-flex from Core-Cell. I have no idea if they still make the stuff. (Core-Cell, yes, but C-flex?). At the time it was their way of getting rid of the enormous stocks of thin foam.

Core cell rings a bell. It was roughly 1/4" thick sheet and the squares were roughly 1/4".

I am constructing custom a motorcycle fairing with no support structure to work from. I suppose I can start with cardboard. Yay.
