what would it take to put a layer of carbon fiber over this as a finish?

I am in the process of modifying a fiberglass tablet holder that i made for my previous car, to fit into a newer model of the same car. The fit was very close but i still have to change out the controls at the bottom which is what i have been working on. I attached a photo of the original build, i used 3M 1080P carbon fiber vinyl to cover it.
I will be finishing up soon with the new controls and will need to cover it once again, so my question is what would it take to do it in real carbon fiber?

Not looking for a step by step guide here just a general idea, please keep in mind the following

-I only have experience using fiberglass (far from an expert, but still love it) never worked with carbon fiber before.
-i do not own any special tools like a vacuum bagging kit ect…
-i have some experience with wetsanding, compounding, and polishing ect…

any input would be appreciated, thanks

I think the answers to your question are:

It will take a fairly small investment in materials.
It will take a bit of patience to skin it in carbon
It will take more time then you think to finish it nicely

You’ll have plenty of experience in wet sanding and polishing when you’re done! :stuck_out_tongue:

to do that part in a few steps (watch the video done on skinning the superman mask on youtube)

paint the part black and sand down to provide a key
pre-form a layer of carbon twill over the part to get a rough shape and put aside carefully
Paint on a layer of laminating epoxy and allow to go sticky , around 2 hours
lay on the carbon carefully as you only got one shot to do it, normally an extra set of hands helps alot
then paint on epoxy nice and thick and allow to cure
sand down with 150-220 grit and paint another layer epoxy
sand down with all the grades of paper
clearcoat
