What to use....

Hi everyone I have been reading a lot of the pages and a lot more how to videos on making fiberglass molds, then ,making parts from the molds etc…

This is what im doing, to start I will me making fenders, and rear quarters, a few small parts, but anyway this will be done at home in till I can secure a shop/small garage where I can set up better,

I have read horror stories about using vinyl resin with the smell where the neighbors complain etc…so far my neighbors have been very tolerant we live in a some what vacation area but anyways

when I started this I planed on using epoxy, which isn’t as bad as vinyl with the smell and you can use it at home with little or no problems about wife, neighbors and so on.

well I made a few calls and got someone to help me to a test run, he was asking about the neighbor hood and so on, and he wants to use vinyl which i dont think is a good idea.

what are your thoughts on this, Would there be significant differences using epoxy to vinyl for making molds and pulling parts from, What about the concern with the smell I cant run the wife and kids out of the house and really dont want to piss of the folks next door.

Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated.

You have a good idea of what you’re going to hear, the -esters are far more pungent than the epoxies. Depends on your neighbors. Maybe you go talk to them and make sure they’re ok with it. They either will or they won’t, and staying in front of the problem is always better than not.

Mostly.

i think it really depends where you do it… ive done it in my garage and you cant smell anything past the driveway…

If your work area is attached to any living area: forget -esters.

You could get away with making your polyester moulds on the driveway, but for the parts I would use epoxy definately.

2 car attached to the house, and thank you for the replys.
