What is your favorite gun for gel and or PVA

What is your favorite gun gel and or PVA

I am ready to invest some money to get a better surface and consistency, and am wondering which products you guys use and like?

Which are best for the price?

Which would be best for quality, yet still in a reasonable price range?

Which are the easiest for cleanup and replacability of parts?

I have seen the difference from a friend in the business, but have never really felt I needed it till now with the pats I am making.

Thanks for any input from experiance.

I’m using an ES100 right now. Works great for me

Could you and any future replies try and include a link to the gun with more information on them???

All I get when looking for ES100 is the tires Yokohama AVS ES100’s…

Thanks

I converted a paint gun for auto paint to shoot my gel coat…Regardless of what you have going on you need to haul ass and shoot all the gelcoat quickly. Seems gelcoat doesnt like to be in a container shaped like a “cup” in any case.

I cant get it to last more than oh say…15 minutes in a cup before gelling.

I also use the E&S 100. I like the FN4, FN5, and FN6 tips depending on what you are spraying.

What size mouldings are you spraying? One can usually cover A LOT of area even in 5 minutes.

More mass = more heat and shorter work time.

I like use both a gel coat dump gun, or a Imported HVLP, to my Binks #7 & #19 guns and one is a pressure pot 2 qt. type.

For PVA: Harbor Freight 9.99 touch up gun, but after cleaning with water, don’t leave any moisture in there, blow it out and pour a little paint thinner to oil it up safely but also spray a little out too.

While in Paramount, Ca. (there several direct importers shops there) is like Inpac Tools (next door to a great aerospace supplus discount store too),13902 Paramount Blvd., Paramount, Calf. 90723
They have these great little HVLP down draft touch up guns (andodized blue) that will do a great job on PVA & Clear PER Duratec resin costing too. Under $20.00 no less. I ususally buy 2 or 3 just in case we are working or sometime and can’t take the time to clean a gun, we throw in a simi dirty acetone bucket first, finish the problem and then clean the gun in the clean acetone bucket. Then put itback together and spray paint thinner thru it to oil it.

I spray my gelcoat on a fresh plug like I spray paint.

A light coat of gelcoat…let it flash for about 3 minutes and then two or three really heavy passes to build up thickness.

I do lots of small parts and when I am building plugs I take my time to get even amounts of gelcoat down.

Hello. I use a top loader HVLP gun which I take the nozzle off, put it on my mill and drill it out to 2.2mm. It gives the most control when shooting clear gel in highly contoured molds. The pattern can be adjust while being sprayed if need be. A cup gun is good too. I’m picking up an MVP dual gelcoater pretty quick, I’ll let you know how it works out too.
