What glue is that?

Hello Everyone,

I have seen this video on the net.And They use a spray glue to bonding UD carbon prepreg to nomex honeycomb core.Do you have any idea? What glue is that? And Where can I buy it?It looks pretty good solution for me.

Here is the video link

Thx

Not sure since I can’t see the label, but maybe it’s Airtac? Whatever it is, from what I’ve heard on the boards here is that you don’t want to use anywhere near what they are spraying down. Go VERY light on the application. One guy even suggested charging the employees for the cans of spray to cut down on the usage. I thought that was pretty funny.

That is only for the first visable layer, they use a coating so it’s not that important. The first layer you need to spray as less as you can if the fabric is visable at the finished product. The layers behind it you can spray more because it’s not visable. It’s not recommended to use as much as they do.

I use Aitech 2 and from what I know that’s one of the best to use.

What they do is defenetly not a good idea. They should use a adhesive layer or a more tacky prepreg.

Pre preg has the correct fibre /resin ratio and in my experience does not have excess resin that can be absorbed into the honeycomb so a film is needed, If you use the method in the video it will starve the fabric of resin and give you visible dry/weak area around the honeycomb.

Carbon fibre works LTD

Usually you would use a film glue for extra adhesion to cores and especially on a honeycomb since it only has that thin honeycomb cell edge to bond with.

Although I have now built around 85 sailing dinghies using pre preg and foam with no film glue and it works perfect even with just one 200g carbon.

Depending on your supplier you can also order a higher resin content so maybe that is what is going on here with the rowing shell??

The spray glue they use looks to just be a temp hold while they finish the bagging.
