What do you do with composite waste?

What do you do with your composite waste? Bits of carbon cloth, paper towels impregnated with resin or hardener, filters from dust collectors, trimmed pieces…?

throw them in my backyard and do a burn.

no…our haz-waste is incinerated, and fabric, etc is just tossed into the dumpster.

All the offcuts of kevlar and carbon go in zip-loc bags. I can’t bring myself to throw the stuff out, and sometimes it does come in handy for small fixes, etc.

Never throw away any liquids/resins/gelcoats, always cat them off before disposing of them.

I was thinking of hazardous waste from my business yesterday… fortunately i do not have any. Any resin that gets outside of the containers is catalyzed and can be tossed in the local trash. Acetone I use for cleaning fully evaporates into the air. Brushes are hard by catylized resin and i toss them in da trash.

I never toss liquid chemicals in the trash. Carbon fiber bits i trash them because usually they are tiny pieces… anything bigger than 4"x4" i keep and use for small patch work.

Thanks for your information. Main problem will be how to get rid of plastic bottles intoxicated by resin and hardener. I will store all of them and than go to company and dispose it legally. Also what about paper towels which are dirty from resin or hardener…

Ask where you would drop off the haz-waste bottles and see if they take things like resin covered towels, etc.

Even papertowels used for acetone and frekote HAVE to be bagged, labeled, and then taken away as haz-waste. Why, i dunno. I guess acetone leaves stuff behind? Course it also might be a UD rule, to protect the janitorial workers from extra toxic materials.

If unsure of where to drop all this off, check your state’s website for hazardous waste pickup/drop off. I know DE does. i ened to talk to them about a random 100lbs block of lead i found near my house, by a creek!

bottles with resin or hardener… just ad a little resin into the hardener bottle and roll it around and shake it. Same with the other. no liquid waste that way.

or cut the plastic bottle open and scrape out the liquids and catalyze them in a small cup.
