Wax sheet

its my first time to work with worksheet on mold making and i wanted to know if its possible to polish the surface in a way so that its very smooth also how do i get rid of the imperfections coz they will be transferred to my part which means i will have to remove them on the plug.

i also tried applying wax release but this made the way sheet to become very sticky, has anyone come across these issues and how did they overcome them. any help will be greatly appreciated.

You can polish wax somewhat, but the shine is very limited. The seams can be reworked with plasticine / model clay.

Alan Harper (The Pope of VARTM) once told me you can use acrylic paint (spray can) on wax sheet. This can be used as a base to rework the sheet to a high gloss, or add putty where needed.

You can also apply PVA to the wax sheet, without release beneath it.

Also a good tip is to use PVA below the sheet wax, to aid in removal.

What are you making with sheet wax? An RTM mould? Do you have instructions?

I’ve tried waxing and applying PVA to the sheet wax but never get a clean release. It turns to toffee and the mould is a nightmare to clean. I have heard that applying a varnish and waxing that will allow release.

Depending on the complexity you could apply packing tape over the sheet wax. You’ll get a clean release from that.

thanks r0bsk1, that the same issue i have after applying wax to the wax sheet and it turns the surface into toffee and gummy :frowning:
