VIP, Vacuum bagging and maybe overlaying demo....

We will be having a guest speaker in my Fiberglass and Plastics ROP class in Garden Grove, Calif. next Thursday, 3/24 @ 6 to 9:30 pm or so…sometimes I don’t get out of there until after 10:30 PM…

They will be talking and showing “hands on”: Vacuum Infusion Process, vacuum bagging and I hope to talk him into also showing carbon fiber overlaying my VW fan shroud to my students and invited guests.

It will be held at Rancho High School, room 706, 11351 Dale St. (or Ave., only been teaching there like maybe 12 years…LOL), Garden Grove. It is on the south side of the campus. The major cross streets is Beach Blvd. and Katella Ave., which is less than 3 miles south from Knott’s Berry Farm.

PM me for invite…JM

So who is the guest speaker?

Check your PM…

We are planning to video tape these demos (I’m trying to get the video production class to do it… :?: ) and have them for sale to those that can’t make it. The sales will go to our free ROP class to buying muchly needed new supplies and tools.

If you have a particular question on any of these demos, maybe post them here and we’ll look them over and add them (I’ll get my students to ask them) in the questions and answer part?

JM

You could ask why the guest speaker is so butt ugly!

Just kidding.

Have him ask how much time it takes to infuse a part versus bagging it.

I’m interested in the video.

I’m interested too

I am interested in the video too. Although I live close by, I work in Torrance and will not be able to make it tonite.
Owen

We’ll post it here when it is ready and I also have a VCR to DVD burner too.

But remember, we are not all movie or soap stars in So. Calif… 8)

PS: I’ll also have many great handouts for the guests as the students already have them…and vacuum gauges for sale only $7.00 each (yea, I know some people on here I was going to sell them for $10.oo but I’m going to lower that price and with this demo / business / school / racing I have been too busy…).

kewl maybe we’ll get to see the butt ugly speaker and butt ugly host as well…L.O.L.

You desreved that one jim for the past comments…L.O.L.

Ok, we are even or is it Evan…

Rain or moon light…it will happen.

I got to go shower (was going to get a hair cut but never made it) and get there early…

I’m off here for now!

What do you mean “you’re off here” for now?
You’re always off.

It went pretty well with some from this site members, Coastal Enterprises (local PUR sheet manufacturer) sent 3 top empolyees, some local SCCA road racing team members and other guests.

Thank god most of my High School trouble makers wheren’t there…like Evan…wink, wink…

In the time allotted, we just got to cover Vacuum infusion, but we are going to contintue video taping next week too.

I’m going to ask Bondline to be added to the video showing the wet lay up process with their silicone reuseable system or RVBS.

We will also be doing a carbon fiber overlay on my AC VW fan shroud too (I need it for the return of the Bug In on April 10th @ Calif. Speedway in Fontana Calif.) and also talk about overlaying plastic interior trims too.

I hope to also add (as we are now making one in class and it is spring break next week, but I’ll be working in the classroom more next week than during a reg. school work…go figure…) how to make post curing / strech blowing molding oven out of PUR (thanks Coastal Ent.), alum. foil and a few other Home Depot or Lowe’s hardware stores and an abandon kitchen oven…

At lest the guest speaker blinked their eyes…and I tried to keep it “lively”…wait til you hear the joke about Dougie…

For the oven type link: http://www.wisil.recumbents.com/wisil/bubbles/hpvbubbles.htm

what could the applications be for something like that. I just don’t see it yet.

Post curing composites…expressly high temp epoxies and the like.

We’ll, we are planning to get back to the video taping the overlay demo this next Tuesday, 4/26th, if this cold or flu of mine doesn’t get the best of me…

Should be around 6:30 pm at my Fiberglass and Plastics ROP classroom, 11351 Dale Ave., Garden Grove…in Orange County, Calif.

JM

So, Where is the demo dvd or tape?

It’s been long enough…No excuses!

L.O.L.

Doug, you should talk being the media star that you are now. Nice pic in the Detroit News standing next to the hood. Where those surface imperfections I saw in that hood??? Very disappointing Mr Doug. I am just kidding with you.

ya Dougie…I’ve been busy…

Did a “Monster Garage” walk on (but was there for 3 days +) which should air on Oct. 3rd or 10th, been racing (but a terrible year) which I pit a few spaces from Jessie, and while I was working on a tire sponsers alginment rack, trying to figure out why the race car would have a death push (the track photo’s guys got the pictures of the right front tire smoking coming off the corners!) or would dirt track loose on the paved track at IS and then stepped off the rack while it was 4 feet off the ground (we just had rasied the car up, I thought I’d put my weight in the seat to see if made any changes, got out and was thinking what I was going to do next and not where I was)…messed up the left knee cartliage! Sucks laying around…

Also, now this board and school has started again too…

PS: For those others, Dougie & Kyankton will be helping me out on this site as Moderators.
