video of new 11 carbon boat hull.

This is a video of the first boat from the mould of a new 11ft sailing dinghy we build.

And a video of this yacht class in action if you are curious?

I have never seen those kinds of boats before. They are pretty awesome!

That looks like a lot of fun! I saw your video on facebook and was wondering what prepreg you are using?

This time I am using GMS composites which is an Australian pre preg. In the past I mostly use ACG fabrics and also still use Newport unis.

These boats (the moth class) are a mostly unrestricted development class that began in 1928. They have evolved over the 80 years into all carbon (hulls, wing frame, foils, masts, boom, etc etc) that fly on hydrofoils. The finished weight of a hull only is typically around 10-12kg with the fully rigged boats as you would launch in the water (including sail, mast and foils) weigh in at about 32kg.

Yup, that is the strangest thing I’ve seen all day. I would be scared to see a group of them coming at me!

What is the thing in the front of the stern that hangs down into the water? height adjustment system that keeps the boat up?

yes, connected to a flap on the front foil.

I’d love to sail a moth. We got beaten up with a F18 cat once, they where just silently flying by. Very interesting class.

They can be scary little boats, since they are so fast and so light when it all goes wrong they also stop very fast and the sailor gets ejected due to their body weight momentum.

Check out the current Americas cup racing yachts (this week) if you want to see extreme composites yacht style.

Do know what the minimum order quantity is for GMS prepregs?

Your boats looks great!

They will do a min 20m.

Transport cost from AUS to USA will be huge. In CA, inquire at YLA Prepregs.

after a quick search, it looks like they got bought out by TenCate Advanced composites.

OK, it was a long time ago when I worked with them.
