VER wont cure

sorry to keep harassing you guys with all my issues but I have one last one that I have been unable to solve! Recently I have been making some molds and parts with the durakane 8084P Vinyl ester resin and can’t get the stuff to cure. i have been mixing the stuff in a climate around 20 - 25 degrees c, using more than enough MEPK (have experimented from 2-20%) and have tried using wac addative. My bagging system has not been free from leaks. The only time I can get this to cure is if I put the heavy lights inches away and wait until the bagging material is essentially melted right too the part! This is new resin and new MEPK…Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks
Evan

It might be an idea to check resin technical spec sheet, and make sure the hardener you are using is compatible with the resin.

Also make sure the resin has acclerator added…some come without and need this added by end user.

deffinately need to find out if the supplier added in the correct components to the resin.

where did you get this resin in question?

What do you mean when you say that it won’t cure, is it still tacky? could it be that there is no “air dry” added?

as in I can leave a catalyzed half cup with wax sitting on my workbench and a week later when I accidently knock it over the entire thing spills everywhere!!! Damn…I really need to get organized.

I used to use Deracane a lot and I bought it un-promoted and had to add exact quantities of Cobalt and DMA (I can’t remember what DMA is). It still only had a 6 month shelf life though, a little bit longer in the winter. Is there any chance your ver is old?

stuff is brand new. Email viking and they said I may need to add more DMA! Any idea if there is any place I could buy this stuff that wouldn’t be a composites shop?

Cobalt is the main ingrediate that reacts to the MEKP (Methyl Ethyl Ketone Peroxide). I have extra cobalt here but shipping a hazardous material like this stuff…?

But DMA is Dimethyl Aniline

What you should do is send the shiz back to them and tell them how pissed you are (well I would certainly be) Thats money wasted, which is never a good thing.
How could they just say you might need to add more DMA?? Thats just rediculous

Where did you buy it?

viking composites in edmonton

If the resin’s no good why not arrange to have it returned to the supplier, and get your money back?

because I live 4 hours away from the supplier. I’ve been super busy and may get around to it. I have found that parts will cure after a seriously extended period but even the resin in the cup won’t cure ever…

The resin is probably out of date…why not ask them to send a carrier to collect it?

I may have to look into it. How sure are you guys that the resin is old? They appear to be a credible supplier… Likely to give me a serious amount of issues since im a small first time purchaser.
