velocity stacks mold

So, I’m making a couple sets of velocity stacks out of carbon… going to use sleaving to do it
trying to make something like this

here is my male plug that I made

still needs some surfacing… basically I designed the shape on a 3d modeling program, printed out templates, put a piece of polyurethane foam on the lathe, then vacuum formed over it when finished… chissled out the foam, then poured instacast in… so I have a nice solid plug now… needs a pit of prep work, but then I’m good… now I’m trying to decide the best way to make a female mold… I’m trying to achieve a good finish on both the inside and outside, so I was thinking of making a two part female mold that this fits into. Lay up the sleaves over this plug, then clamp the two female molds onto the outside, and let cure. Will probably leave a ridge along the part line between the two female molds though…

any suggestions?

Hey Saxman, did you think of using some of that carbon sleeve stuff, and vac. onto your male mold, that way you wouldn’t have any part lines.

Have you thought about shrink tubing over the male mold?

I’m planning on using the carbon sleeving… I will still have a part line where the two female molds meet… I could probably sand it out easily… it will just be a ridge of resin I presume

haven’t really thought about using shrink tubing… will that give me a nice finished surface? Iwant them to look good on both sides
